As I stand here in the dark, lit up only by the sporadic sparks of fireflies around me, surrounded by the joyous cacophony of katydids, I feel a pang of nostalgia. I know this feeling very well, especially this time of year. I used to think it was the sense of summer vacation nearing its end, the increase in back-to-school commercials, the knowing that soon these wild and free summer nights would be replaced with homework and getting up early the next morning to catch the bus. But, as I grew up and entered adulthood, this feeling I get in mid-to-late-August evenings never went away…
I hope you’re savoring this last full month of summer, basking in the sun, cooling off in the evenings, and enjoying the bountiful harvest. As always, feel free to comment and share how you’re honoring the season!
